Cord Blood: The Life BLOOD of the Heartland

Cord blood is a vital source of stem cells for patients who need a stem cell transplant. Yet, some transplant centers hesitate using this medical resource due to lack of experience using cord blood. How can more medical teams become comfortable with using cord blood? Who will be the next generation of cord blood transplant specialists? Dr. Sachit Patel will answer these questions and more in his presentation: "Cord Blood: The Life BLOOD of the Heartland."

In this session, Dr. Patel will discuss how he has used training from early in his career to expand the utilization of cord blood transplants at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He will showcase four separate patient-focused case studies. He will detail how he learned about cord blood transplants working alongside Dr. Joanne Kurztberg at Duke University and then took this experience to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he led the state's 1st double cord blood transplant.

Dr. Patel's presentation will highlight:

- The importance of advancing cord blood awareness and utilization in more cancer centers

- Case studies from his experience of introducing cord blood treatments in his hospital

- The current state of industry around cord blood and what the future holds
