Can we open the door to low cost cancer treatments with cord blood? We are thrilled to welcome back Dr. Yago Nieto (MD Anderson Cancer Center) to speak about his recently published study focused on novel cell therapy approach using cord blood-derived natural killer (NK) cells pre-complexed with AFM13, or acimtamig, a CD30/CD16A bispecific antibody. This could open the door to new low-cost cancer treatment and cord blood is key! For this presentation, Dr. Nieto will discuss his latest research using cord blood: "Allogeneic NK cells with a bispecific innate cell engager in refractory relapsed lymphoma: a phase 1 trial" ( https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-025-03640-8 ). Natural killer (NK) cells are key elements of the immune system, with a crucial role in eradicating cells that have become malignant or infected with a virus. Cord blood constitutes an important source of NK cells, which then require a complex process of activation, manufacturing, and expansion in the lab prior to infusion to patients with cancer. Our group has developed off-the-shelf frozen cord blood-derived NK cells that we have tested in a variety of cancers with encouraging results. Learning objectives:
