Making the right choice

Donating or privately banking your child’s cord blood

As an expectant mother, only you have the power to choose what happens to your baby’s cord blood. There are two choices, both of which have a number of benefits. Decide which is right for you and your family, and act now.

Public Cord Blood Banks collect donated cord blood to be used for life-saving medical research or to be used in the treatment of a compatible patient in need of stem cells. There are no fees involved with donation.

Private Cord Blood Banks charge fees to collect and store cord blood, allowing you to preserve your child’s cord blood so that if needed, it can be used by your child or family.

Free or discounted banking is available for families in need. Find out more.

Save the Cord Foundation collects stories from people who have gone through the donation and banking process, or whose lives have been affected by cord blood in other ways. Read their stories here to get information and inspiration, or share your own story.
